These are the figures this site recorded for 2026-09-10: each is the average of the prices we sampled across that day, stored as-is and never rewritten afterwards. They are reference metal prices — a shop adds workmanship and its own margin on top, and workmanship is not recovered when you sell.

The buy-back column is this site's own reference, not a dealer quote: we set it a fixed 100.0 EGP per gram below the recorded sell price on every karat, because we do not observe what individual shops bid. What a particular dealer pays you may be more or less.

The 22K row is derived: the recorded 24K gram multiplied by 22/24, with the same 100.0 EGP per-gram gap applied to its buy-back, because our series does not record 22K separately.

Each row below is the recorded reference metal value for that weight — what the gold alone is worth at the figures above, excluding workmanship and dealer margin. The buy-back column applies this site's own fixed reference gap rather than an observed dealer bid, and no dealer is bound to transact at either figure.

21K gold is the dominant karat in Egyptian jewelry — 87.5% pure (21 parts of 24) — and it is shown live at the top of this page. It accounts for the large majority of gold traded in Egypt because it balances high purity against enough hardness for jewelry that is worn daily. Every 21K quote in the market is derived arithmetically: the 24K reference gram × 0.875.

What you actually pay above the gram price. A shop's quote is the metal plus two additions. Workmanship (masna'iya) is charged per gram and typically runs 4–8% depending on the piece — plain bands and simple chains at the bottom of that range, filigree, hollow, or heavily-worked sets at the top; the figure most often quoted as a market average is around 4.45%. Dealer margin adds roughly another 3–5%. Neither is recovered when you sell.

The buy-back spread is the real cost of a round trip. Egyptian dealers quote a sell price and a lower buy-back price, and the gap between them is what a round trip costs you before anything else. This site does not observe individual dealers' bids: the buy-back column shown here is our own reference, set a fixed 100 EGP per gram below the recorded sell price, so treat it as an indication of scale rather than a quote. When you sell 21K back you are paid for the pure-gold content at the day's rate minus whatever that particular dealer's spread is — with no credit for the workmanship you originally paid. On a piece bought and sold within a short window, workmanship and spread together, not the daily price move, decide whether you are ahead.

Where 21K fits against the alternatives. The Egyptian Gold Pound is 8 grams of exactly this karat, so its value is 8× the gram price above plus a small minting premium — which is why it stays more liquid than worked jewelry. For pure saving, 24K bars lose the least on resale; for wearing, 21K is the standard. To check whether your holdings reach the Zakat Nisab (85 g of 24K equivalent, or roughly 97 g at 21K purity) and owe 2.5%, use the Zakat calculator on this site; to price a specific piece including workmanship, use the jewelry price calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the live 21K gold price now?

The live 21K gram price in EGP is at the top of the page and refreshes about every five minutes. It is derived from the 24K reference gram × 0.875.

What does 21K cost with workmanship included?

Add roughly 4–8% to the gram price depending on the piece — simple bands and chains at the low end, worked or filigree sets at the high end — then a dealer margin of about 3–5% on top. The commonly quoted market average for workmanship is around 4.45%.

21K vs 24K for jewelry?

21K is preferred for everyday jewelry because the 12.5% alloy makes it hard enough to survive daily wear. 24K is softer and is bought as bars or coins for saving rather than for wearing.

Do I get the workmanship back when I sell?

No. Workmanship is a non-recoverable cost. On resale you are paid for the pure-gold content at the day's rate minus the dealer's buy-back spread, which is why bars and the Gold Pound are more efficient for pure saving than worked jewelry.

How much 21K gold triggers Zakat?

The Nisab is 85 grams of 24K-equivalent pure gold, which is about 97 grams at 21K purity. Above that threshold, 2.5% is due on the value. The Zakat calculator on this site works this out at the live price across the four madhabs.

What is the Egyptian Gold Pound worth in 21K terms?

The Gold Pound is 8 grams of 21K, so its value is 8× the gram price shown above, plus a minting premium of roughly 200–500 EGP depending on the dealer.
